One in five US children do not have enough to eat
By Andre Damon Feeding America, the US national network of food banks, released its annual report on local food insecurity Thursday, showing that there are dozens of counties throughout in the US where a third of children do not get enough to eat.
Fourteen million people, or 16 percent of the population, lived in food insecure households in 2012, the latest year for which figures are available. This is up from 11.1 percent in 2007. (...)

No Time For The Summertime
17 June 2013, by Robert ParisNo Time For The Summertime
The summer months are supposed to be a time to spend with our families, possibly visit relatives in other cities, and simply hang out and get some rest. Because the weather is nice and the kids are out of school, many of us try to save up as much of our vacation days for the summer. But unfortunately, for most workers, we’re rarely able to do any of this – we’re lucky if we get any time off at all.
Even if we do get time off, we rarely get the days we want (...) -

25 December 2012, by Robert ParisRight-wing LDP government to take office in Japan
By Peter Symonds
Japan’s conservative Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has been returned to power by a landslide in yesterday’s election. According to NHK exit polls, the LDP is projected to win between 275 and 300 seats in the 480-seat lower house of the Diet, or parliament. Together with its coalition partner, New Komeito, it is predicted to hold 320 seats, creating a two-thirds majority that would enable the new government to override (...) -

The class struggle, Jack London
2 October 2013, by Robert ParisUnfortunately or otherwise, people are prone to believe in the reality of the things they think ought to be so. This comes of the cheery optimism which is innate with life itself; and, while it may sometimes be deplored, it must never be censured, for, as a rule, it is productive of more good than harm, and of about all the achievement there is in the world. There are cases where this optimism has been disastrous, as with the people who lived in Pompeii during its last quivering days; or (...)

Egyptian military regime plans sharp attack on working class
11 July 2013, by Robert ParisEgyptian military regime plans sharp attack on working class
By Alex Lantier
The day after carrying out a bloody massacre killing 51 supporters of ousted Muslim Brotherhood (MB) President Mohamed Mursi, the newly-installed Egyptian army junta issued a constitutional decree vesting unlimited powers in the military-backed president. It also named free-market economist Hazem El-Beblawi as prime minister, signaling plans for a sharp attack on the working class.
These events confirm that (...) -
Time to Celebrate Ourselves
2 January 2014, by Robert ParisTime to Celebrate Ourselves
The holiday season is supposed to be a time when people look forward to getting together with family, friends, neighbors and co-workers, relaxing and eating good food. It is supposed to be a break from our normal routine, a chance to take time off of work and kick back and enjoy ourselves.
But for many of us this is not the reality. Some of us get no time off from work for the holidays and some work even more hours. Others of us have no jobs and are (...) -
Fukushima : démantèlement incertain et désastre économique garanti
6 May 2012, by Robert ParisFukushima : démantèlement incertain et désastre économique garanti
